Ben Morgan’s Saturday tips –  Newmarket – Lace to force her rivals to tie up in Sweet Solera

Our resident tipster Ben Morgan gives his best bet for Saturday’s action at

Newmarket 3.40 – Johnston filly to turn up the heat in Group 3 company

It will undoubtedly be a quiet Saturday afternoon for me with still in the rear view mirror and on the horizon.

Shergar Cup weekend is probably the best opportunity for a weekend off within such a busy period.

One horse whom I have already backed this Saturday, though, is VENETIAN LACE, who looks completely the wrong price in the Sweet Solera Stakes.

Charlie Johnston’s strong staying filly showed her ability in the Group Superlative Stakes last month by finishing a close 4th against the boys.

This performance can be marked up dramatically as she hung markedly left, forfeiting more ground than she was eventually beaten by, and as she approached the line, you can see she still had more left to give.

The reason for her hanging so far left is unknown, but I suspect as she was out in front all the way through, she may have just noticed the horse in second place and therefore wanted to run alongside, but I am willing to forgive and forget that, as there were no signs of attitude in her two runs prior.

She stays the 7f and her form is probably the best in the race so the 6/1 I took about her earlier in the week and the 5/1 still currently on offer looks far too big.
