Goldream wins King’s Stand thriller

edged a thrilling renewal of the 's Stand Stakes after beating Medicean Man in a photo as was fifth.

Sole Power was sent off a well-supported favourite in his bid to complete a hat-trick in the race, but never reached the winner as Goldream got the nod from the judge to beat 50/1 shot Medicean Man by a short-head with a neck back to Muthmir in third.

There was a decent early pace in the five-furlong contest as Take Cover took the field along, with Sole Power settled towards the rear and Australian challenger Shamal Wind out the back.

The fancied Muthmir was involved in some barging towards the stands' side heading to the final furlong as long-time leader Take Cover was swamped either side by Medicean Man and Goldream down the centre of the track.

Martin Harley had timed his run to perfection on Goldream and got the 20/1 chance's head down at the right time to pip Medicean Man.

, who had beaten the winner in the Temple Stakes at last time, flashed home late to take fourth as Sole Power was never able to get to the leaders to land a blow.

Winning trainer Robert Cowell was surprised by Goldream's win on the six-year-old's first stab at Group One level.

Cowell, who won the King's Stand in 2011 with another six-year-old in Prohibit, said: “He's been brilliant. I didn't think he'd win a race like this but I thought he was getting to that sort of level.”
