Connections feel it is best if Limato goes for glory in Royal Ascot’s Commonwealth Cup without another preparation run.
The three-year-old sprinter has won all five of his starts to date and last triumphed in the Group 3 Merriebelle Stable Pavilion Stakes at Ascot back on April 29.
The son of Tagula also claimed the spoils when beating the impressive Mattmu at Redcar on October 4 last year and it was thought that he might have one more outing before heading to the Berkshire showpiece.
But trainer Henry Candy does not feel the need another race and is upbeat for Limato’s chances in the inaugural running of the Commonwealth Cup after seeing his vanquished rivals do well in recent weeks.
“Limato seems like he has woken up and will go straight to Royal Ascot,” he said. “We decided against giving him another run as he goes best well fresh.
“The run of Mattmu was particularly pleasing to see in the Duke of York, as that was some performance by a three-year-old. He was the moral winner, so we know the form of Limato’s Redcar run is good.”
