See Andy Newton’s ITV Racing tips on Saturday 10th October – which comes from Newmarket and York.
**MUSSAB (1st 8/1) and STUDY OF WORDS (1st 10/1) were top winners for Andy on Friday**
In total, there are EIGHT ITV Racing contests to take in across the two premier tracks.
These include the ultra-competitive Cesarewitch Handicap (3:40pm) at Newmarket, where last year’s first and second Beylerbeyi and Dawn Rising lock horns again.
At HQ, we’ve also got the Group One Dewhurst Stakes (3pm) as exciting colts Desert Castle and Darkness Falls do battle for the top juvenile colt bragging rights.
Then at York, we’ve three more ITV races that include the Sky Bet Sprint Trophy (3:17pm) – a race Strike Red has won twice in the past and is back for more.
So, let’s get going – you can see Andy Newton’s 1-2-3 ITV Racing tips for the main races on Saturday at Newmarket & York – including his NAP.

Andy Newton’s Newmarket ITV Racing Tips: Rock Montreal Looks Solid Autumn Stakes Option

13:15 NEWMARKET Too Darn Hot Darley Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m1f ITV
THE LOST KING is the call to be crowned and continue his progression this season.
This Andrew Balding entry is one of three runners for the yard and with just a pound between four of the five horses on the ratings – we could be in for a good little race.
The pick should have won two starts back at Haydock, when getting going too late and losing by a nose.
While last time wasn’t disgraced in the G2 Joel Stakes behind Talk Of New York (2nd) (watch below).
Eased back in grade here and also gets a handy 3lbs from one of his main threats Haatem, who was a nice winner in the US last time.
But it’s slightly strange that Ryan Moore is riding this Wathnan/Hannon runner (Haatem) – which their main stable jockey James Doyle preferring Humidity.
This 3yold hasn’t been seen all season so has clearly had some issues but was last seen running Bow Echo (2nd) close in the Royal Lodge here a year ago.
He’s been gelded since and is one of the other Andrew Balding runners, along with High Stock.
Karl Burke’s Boiling Point, who took last season’s Cambridgeshire here, will be trying to spoil the Balding party.
But I think there is more to come from The Lost King, who should enjoy this slightly longer trip and has William Buick booked.
🥇THE LOST KING
🥈Humidity
🥉Haatem
13:50 NEWMARKET – Night Of Thunder Zetland Stakes (Group 3) Cl1(2yo) 1m2f ITV
DRUMBEAT should take the beating here, but I’d not be shocked to see the Andrew Balding horse WYKEHURST PARK also take another step forward.
The pick was last seen running third to stablemate Noble Exhibit in the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh over 1m (watch below).
But this big Wootton Bassett colt was doing his best work at the finish, so this step up to 1m2 looks a perfect move.
Aidan O’Brien likes this prize too – winning 3 of the last 9, including 12 months ago with Pierre Bonnard.
Of the rest, Sword Salute and the only course winner in the field Netherstream are noted, but was quite impressed with Wykehurst Park last time at Yarmouth.
Yes, this is a step up in grade, but this Stradivarius colt should be another that will like the longer trip and with only two career runs there’s every chance he’s got a lot more improvement in the tank.
But the one that sets the standard for me is Drumbeat, who is the next of the ITV Racing tips that can hit the rights notes here.
🥇DRUMBEAT
🥈WYKEHURST PARK
🥉Sword Salute
14:25 NEWMARKET Emirates Autumn Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (2yo) 1m ITV
ROCK MONTREAL is yet another horse in these opening Newmarket races that should love the longer trip here.
This Blue Point colt ran on well over 7f at Donny in the Flying Scotsman last time – going down by just a head to Forbidden Fire (watch below).
That day the first two pulled 1 1/2 lengths clear of Nabati in third, and with that horse since landing the G2 Mill Reef, then the form looks rock ‘Montreal’ solid.
William Buick rides for Roger Varian and this is a race Godolphin love to win – landing 8 of the last 10.
With that in-mind they also send Al Jabbar to post, who beat Hmas Perth last time and that horse has since come out and won to boost that effort.
But the most likely danger looks to be Sergei Diaghilev.
He was a tidy Listed winner at Gowran Park in August and backed that up with a solid 2nd to the promising Desert Castle, who is a big fancy for the Dewhurst Stakes (next race) on this card too.
However, Aidan O’Brien has only won this race once (Delacroix, 2024) and so I’m happy to side with the connections who have won 80% of the last 10 renewals.
🥇ROCK MONTREAL
🥈Sergei Diaghilev
🥉Al Jabbar
15:00 NEWMARKET Darley Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 (2yo) 7f ITV
DARKNESS FALLS might just lack for pace against the Godolphin hot-pot Desert Castle back over this 7f trip – but I’m still sticking with him.
The pick has shot to the head of the Derby market after impressive wins at the Curragh and Leopardstown over 1m and 1m1f.
That form was also given a shot in the arm in the week with the runner-up Jesus Green bolting up at Navan on Wednesday.
Yes, the drop back to 7f might not look ideal, but he’s a horse not short of pace and the fact his powerful connections are running him here adds confidence on that front.
Ballydoyle also like the Dewhurst Stakes – winning the race eight times in total and landing six of the last 13.
He’ll be looking to do a City Of Troy by landing this and then following up in the Epsom Derby next season.
Of course, Desert Castle is a very likable Frankel colt too and showed a cracking turn of foot to win the Champagne Stakes last time.
And as previously mentioned in the last race – if Sergei Diaghilev, who was second that day, runs well in the Autumn Stakes that’s a clear boost.
He’s already the clear favourite for next season’s 2000 Guineas and his trainer Charlie Appleby has won three of the last seven.
Overall, it’s a fascinating match-up that seems to pitch speed against stamina – and I’m opting for the later to come out on top.
🥇DARKNESS FALLS
🥈Desert Castle
🥉Great Barrier Reef
15:40 NEWMARKET Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (3yo+) 2m2f ITV
DAWN RISING is the call to turn the tables on Beylerbeyi, after finding only this Ian Williams runner too good in this race 12 months ago.
The pair pulled 2 1/4 lengths clear of the third that day, but crucially the runner-up is now 10lbs better off.
Both haven’t won a race since, but last year’s winner did run a cracker in the G2 Doncaster Cup last time and that form has been boosted with the winner Caballo De Mar scalping Scandinavia in France last weekend.
But he’s up 10lbs from last year and having gone back to 1900 I can’t find any ‘back-to-back’ winners.
Those against Dawn Rising will look to his age (9), but The Shunter was 10 when he took this in 2023 and Caracciola was 11 back in 2008 – so it can be done.
Last year’s silver also gets in here on the same mark as 12 months ago (97) and Ryan Moore booked to ride suggests Joseph O’Brien has trained this JP McManus horse with his race in mind.
Oh, and he’s also been handed stall 5 – the same gate as last year’s winner.
Of the rest, the James Owen runner Kirchner is noted too, as are Valedictory and Manxman from low draws.
Unexposed Sea Lantern Respected Too
But I think SEA LANTERN is worth a mention as well, with his trainer Brian Ellison very bullish about his chance.
Yes, he’s only had four career runs, so in a race like this will lack the experience of the hustle and bustle. Plus, he’s also up significantly in trip – from 1m4 to 2m2f.
But he was very impressive at Pontefract the last day and a 4lb rise for that looks lenient, to say the least.
With improvement assured then all that’s probably needed is a bit more give underfoot – if it does come, then don’t be shocked if the Sea Lantern price comes slashing down.
🥇DAWN RISING
🥈SEA LANTERN

Andy Newton’s York ITV Racing Tips: Fine Interview To Get The Job Done

13:30 YORK Sky Bet Rockingham Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (2yo) 6f ITV
BIG CIGAR is chanced in what doesn’t look the best of renewals and, therefore, a punt on something at a price is probably not the worst shout.
This Fahey runner is at least a proven CD winner here, after landing a handicap in July.
Since then he’s been highly-tried in the Richmond Stakes (watch below) and Acomb Stakes – coming 7th both times.
But those were still two fair runs and the Acomb winner Haffner has since come out to win the G2 Royal Lodge Stake at HQ.
While he had Cut A Dash back in 9th in the Richmond, yet that Hannon horse is 10 points shorter in the betting.
Into slightly calmer waters here a chance is taken on Big Cigar to light up here.
Of the rest, Epsom Woodcote winner Hickory Lad, Dubai Champion and Agamemnon are others that are sure to attract support.
🥇BIG CIGAR (e/w)
🥈Hickory Lad
🥉Cut A Dash
14:05 YORK – Sky Bet For The Fans Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 1m2½f ITV
WATER TO WINE will be a popular pick to get back to winning ways after his disappointing run in the G2 King Edward VII Stakes last time out.
Connections have given him time to get over that Royal Ascot run (113 days) and has since been gelded.
He’s dipped into a handicap here too for the first time – albeit on a stiff mark (104) but jockey Luke Catton (3lbs) is helping on that score.
This son of Kingman has also been gelded since Ascot, while 50% of the last 10 winners were aged 3.
Draw 20 is the worry – as 80% of the last 10 winners came from gates 9 or lower. With 6/10 from just stalls 3, 4 or 8.
Some of those draw low are – French Duke, Yabher, Castle Stuart, Thunder Run, My Love Is King and Say What You See.
We’ve got last year’s winner Grey Cuban (draw 14) back to defend his crown and is rated only 2lbs higher – but hasn’t won since.
Last Year’s Second Insanity Could Go Well at a Price
But a chance is taken on INSANITY, who was second in 2025 too and is 2lbs lower.
This Alan King runner has been handed gate 3, which seems a plus based on past renewals.
He was only beaten 3 3/4 lengths at the Shergar Cup last time in August and been kept fresh for this.
Is back another pound here too and has been a close second on his last two trips to York Sean Leavy rides.
While Have Secret was 6th and a pound higher.
Another of those at a bigger prices, if any rain comes, is Lord Melbourne.
The 2024 November Handicap winner is 1-1 here at York and has had a few excuses in recent runs.
The Ralph Beckett yard are also in decent order and is now only a pound higher than his last winning mark.
🥇INSANITY (e/w)
🥈WATER TO WINE
🥉Lord Melbourne
15:17 YORK Sky Bet Sprint Trophy Handicap (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 6f ITV
FINE INTERVIEW is taken to get the ‘job’ done in this tricky sprint handicap.
This Wathnan runner ticks a lot of the key trends – notably all of the last 8 winners being drawn between stalls 4-9 – plus carrying 9st+.
He was last seen running a fair 4th to Pellitory in the Ayr Gold Cup (watch below), but meets that horse on 7lbs better terms and connections have booked Jack Nicholls to take off another 3lbs.
Before that run he ran 7th to Sondad, who has since won a Listed race – and Air Force One was back in 8th and he’s come out and won again since too.
Oh, Coul Angel was also in that same race (3rd) and Fine Interview is also 10lbs better off with the Mick Appleby runner.
With the first-time blinkers on too, that could eke out more – there’s a lot to like.
AL SHABAB STORM , who was a fast-finishing 3rd in the Portland Handicap last time, also ticks the main draw (5) and weight stats and has Harry Vigors on to claim 5lbs.
While of the others two-time winner of the race STRIKE RED can’t be discounted off a lower mark this time.
Apollo One is 20 races without a win, but well-handicapped if getting the breaks.
And Toyotomi is 8lbs better off with Coul Angel on their Curragh run and looked a bit unlucky (wink wink) that day – he comes from the David O’Meara yard, who are 3-9 in this race in recent years.
But for the final ITV Racing tips I’m happy to have Fine Interview, Al Shabab Storm and past winner Strike Red in my corner here.

🥈AL SHABAB STORM
🥉STRIKE RED
