Many of the small crowd gathered on a wet afternoon at Lingfield didn’t pay too much attention to the winner of a class 5 handicap.
But there were some joyous screams from a couple of ladies in the winners enclosure when Elouise Prince returned after the race.
Before questioning one of the ebullient owners, I noticed that the owner and the winning apprentice jockey had the same surname.
Elouise Prince’s jockey was Jose Fernandes, and he was winning his first ever race as a professional.
