Sandown 1.50 – Sandown the scene for Beach party

The EBF final is one of my favourite races of the season and this year’s renewal looks right out of the top drawer.

I could make a case for half of the field probably, but one horse who has been on my shortlist for half the season or so now is LAGUNA BEACH, who could be very leniently handicapped off a mark of 128.

Nicky Hendersons charge impressed me when winning at Hereford under hands and heels and I was very sweet on him last time at Ascot when it seemed like a final hurdle mistake put pay to his chance.

Although the winner didnt really frank the form on his next run, I do think the form will work out ok in the long run.

Like most of these, I think he will be a much better chaser, but he could have plenty of unfinished business over hurdles before the switch next season.

Sandown 2.27 – Rubber Ball bounce back to continue

Finally, Neil King got RUBBER BALL back on track last week at Newbury after what has been a frustrating season so far for connections.

The drop back to 2m seemed to suit him and he now looks dangerous returning just 7 days later in this much more competitive race.

I was, however, impressed with how far the front two pulled clear last week and the horse who finished second is certainly worth following, as I think he was fancied last week and finished strongly himself.

After a quiet start to the season, his mark is definitely still within range, so dismiss him at your peril.
