Our resident tipster Ben Morgan selects his best bets on Saturday from Chester, Haydock and York.
Haydock 3.33
I’ll start with the feature race of the day, which is the Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock.
This looks a hot Group 3 if you ask me and you probably want a horse who can mix it at a higher level which I think ALYANAABI can.
He has always been held in high regard by his connections but lost his way a little last year before returning in impressive fashion here 3 weeks ago.
The 7f trip looked to be tailor-made for him that day, and if this unique trip is the key to unlocking this horse’s undoubted potential, then he could reach the very top in this division.
With conditions similar to what they were 3 weeks ago, I think he is a great bet at 7/2.
In the same race at a slightly bigger price, I wouldn’t put anyone off KIKKUL, who catches my eye with Oisin Murphy booked to ride.
Another with undoubted potential, he hasn’t quite fulfilled what connections had hoped he would have done by now.
However, if he takes a step forward from his reappearance run in the same race as the main selection, then I don’t think he is a 14/1 shot here.
Chester 1.35 – Rivals have a mountain to climb to get past Beacons
Not too far down the road at Chester, I’m hoping a couple of fillies can do the business for me.
First up is BRECON BEACONS, who looks sure to build on a promising run at Kempton last time out.
Being a half sister to the classy Caernarfon, who was also trained by Jack Channon, she has a reputation for upholding, and after running the fastest final furlong at Kempton on debut, she looks to have a good chance of doing so.
The draw has been kind, and I hope she can progress enough to get her head in front here.
Chester 4.30 – Angel looks heaven-sent
I thought SERAPHIM ANGEL was one of the horses to take out of the Chester May Festival as she made up plenty of ground up the straight despite being no favours whatsoever from her draw.
She steamed home to be 4th that day and wasn’t given an overly hard time of things up the straight.
The form of the race looks strong and back against her own sex here I expect her to be bang there.
York 5.00 – I predict a Riot in competitive handicap
I’ll tip my hat to anyone who goes through the card at York this Saturday, as it looks incredibly competitive.
The 5.00 is no different and I’m probably only backing RIOT on the basis he loves the place and if he gets the gaps he will be in the frame.
He had a luckless run last time out and certainly lost more ground than what he was eventually beat by. I’m hoping he is due a change of luck on the back of that and if so he will outrun his odds.
Haydock 3.33 – Alyanaabi / Kikkuli
Chester 1.35 – Brecon Beacons
Chester 4.30 – Seraphim Angel
York 5.00 – Riot
