2.30 – Albany Stakes – Hannon filly to take Issue with red hot favourite in day 4 opener

It sounds like the favourite is a good thing here but at 5/4 you won’t get too rich backing her here so I’d rather take a punt on one at a bigger price and play for each way returns at least.

Richard Hannon’s two year olds have run well all week and I think he has a good batch this year so it bodes well for DARK ISSUE’s chances here.

She romped clear on her debut at Goodwood which is usually a positive sign for a Hannon two year old as he doesn’t ask too many questions at home and she did beat a couple of experienced horses that day so I think she is likely to be well above average.

A low draw will pose a question to Pat Dobbs here but low has been the place to be in this race in recent years so I’m willing to take a punt at 14/1.

3.05 – Commonwealth Cup – Two tickets to Havana please!

A mighty competitive renewal of the Commonwealth Cup where Venetian Sun appears to be all the rage after her Haydock success. She is much too short for me considering the opponents she lines up against here and I am more than happy to play two at double figure prices.

Both have ‘Havana’ listed in their name and the first one is HAVANA HURRICANE who I think will relish this stiff 6f.

He won the Windsor Castle here last year and went on to prove himself to be one of the top two year olds of 2025.

Always rattling home late over 5f, he gave the impression 6f would be his ideal trip although he didn’t really show that until last time out when he ran a nice race behind Song Of The Clyde and Albert Einstein, staying on in a race which paid to be up with the pace.

I think he will give Charlie Bishop a great spin here and if he can get a tow into the race off the right horse I think he will be finishing fast in the final furlong.

I will have a saver on HAVANA ANNA also who was workmanlike on her return at Naas but certainly looked a filly to follow last season.

She stamped herself as a top operator to me when she pushed True Love all the way in the Cheveley Park as I did have her down as a 5f horse before that but she did show that day plenty of stamina which will be needed here. I think both horses have been overlooked and both are worth supporting each way.

3.40 – Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes – McDonald presented with golden Opportunity

A low draw in stall 1 isn’t ideal for OPPORTUNITY but it might not be as bad as connections fear.

I don’t think this is the deepest renewal of this race and only a handful of these threaten to hide something from the handicapper which could narrow down the field.

I was really impressed with the selection at Carlisle last time out where he powered clear of his rivals and consequently received a 8lb hike.

An extra 8lbs wouldn’t have stopped him that day I don’t think so I have every reason to believe he has a big chance here. I am surprised James Doyle deserts him but James McDonald is a great substitute and I am sure he will give him maximum assistance from the saddle.

4.20 – Coronation Stakes – True Love to show true form

I anticipate this to be a tactical affair and it will be interesting to see how the Ballydoyle horses place themselves in the race.

The bend in this race no doubt plays into the hands of the speedier TRUE LOVE as long as she is placed in the right position to challenge.

A few times this week I have felt Ballydoyle haven’t given all their horses the best chance to win the race so a lot is dependent on tactics here but if all goes to form then I think the speedier True Love might just be able to put a marker on Precise’s back and strike late.

5.00 – Sandringham Stakes – Buick an eye-catching jockey booking in wide open Sandringham

William Buick and William Knight have a very good strike rate when teaming up and I find it interesting Buick has been booked to ride TRUE TEST here.

Easily accessible at 40/1 as this goes to press I don’t think Godolphin’s number one would have too many rides on horses at those prices anywhere these days, let alone Royal Ascot.

The form in the book suggests she could be capable although her Guineas run may suggest otherwise.

The fact she was thought good enough to run in a Guineas though shows what regard she is held in and it’s a bit of a leap of faith to back her here but at those prices I am more than happy to take a chance.

5.35 – King Edwards VII Stakes – Water To Wine looks like the order of the day

John Gosden, rather casually, every so often, tends to find a world class 3 year old from seemingly nowhere.

WATER TO WINE is the latest Gosden 3 year old to spring onto the scene without having run as a 2 year old and looks every inch a top class individual.

A Newbury novice win was boosted when the 2nd finished 5th in the Derby and although you can’t read too much into his run at Kempton, he could hardly have been more impressive.

It looks like the slowly, slowly approach could pay dividends as many of his year group lose their fancy reputation and taint their form lines in the Chester Vase, Dante and Derby itself.

Whereas this fellow is seemingly on an upward trajectory which doesn’t look like it is going to stop soon. I think he will be far too good for these and odds against looks generous.

6.10 – Palace Of Holyroodhouse Stales – Power to show Revival from York pipe opener

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it’s going to take a smart one to reel in REVIVAL POWER here. A full sister to connections’ Winter Power she has unsurprisingly shown herself to be all about pace.

She marked herself as one of the better 5f two year olds last season with victories at York and Doncaster and although I am slightly surprised she lines up in a handicap here, I think she will be very hard to beat.

Again, connections have won this race with Art Power in the past and I don’t think it is a coincidence that they have chosen this race as an early season target for their most recent speedster.

A pipe opener at York, where she travelled very well, would have put her spot on for this and although a low draw isn’t ideal I think she might be good enough to overcome that.
