Ian Heitman on the red-hot trail of all-conquering saddle star Loughnane

2025 was a landmark year for Billy Loughnane. Not only did he ride his first Group1 winner, he also rode the most number of winners in a calendar year this century – 222. His final winner of the year was landed on his penultimate ride of the year.
It already looks as though Loughnane will be crowned the All-Weather Championships leading jockey for the 2025/26 season, 22 winners clear at the time of writing from Rossa Ryan with his 50th winner coming on January 10.
