There is an excellent midweek card from Goodwood this afternoon including a mile fillies' maiden to open the card. Mystic Jade is a half-sister to six winners and should appreciate the step up in trip having ran well when third over six furlongs here last month on debut despite not getting the best of runs.
She looks more than capable of winning her fair share of races as does debutante Timba but the nod goes to Cartier (2.20) also third on debut this time at Doncaster over a mile. Trained by David Simcock the selection holds an entry in the Fillies' Mile next month and if connections are considering that Group One engagement she must go very close this afternoon. The stable won the corresponding race 12 months ago and I would be very disappointed if she didn't run very well.
The 10f maiden is a cracker and connections of Too The Stars (2.55) will be desperate to get a win next to her name having cost 800,000 Euros as a yearling. She ran a fine race on ground softer than ideal, certainly on her breeding, at Newbury last time and as long as the ground is no worse than good she can break her maiden tag at the third time of asking. Roger Varian's unraced Ferayha is a fascinating newcomer in a decent maiden for the time of year.
The nursery is a warm race with Richard Fahey bringing a couple down for this valuable prize; Ryan Moore rides George Bowen who met trouble in running at the Glorious Meeting here last month but the vote goes to Jonny B Goode (3.30) who receives plenty of weight from the other principles. Andrea Atzeni takes the ride on a gelding who broke his duck over the minimum trip at Thirsk last time.
Good Contact (4.05) is one of only two Godolphin entries in next week's Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster and he can land an intriguing four-runner juvenile Conditions event for Saeed Bin Suroor. The yard should know where they stand with likely favourite Make It Up given their Good Place beat the Andrew Balding trainer runner 2 lengths at Lingfield last time; James Doyle takes the ride.
Dolphin Village steps up to 2miles for the first time in the next and would have every chance if getting the trip but Statutory (4.40) looked to be slowly coming to hand at York last time and is 3lb lower than his last winning mark.
There is a BetVictor sponsored card at Kempton Park this evening and Presto Boy (6.20) stepped up markedly on previous efforts when 4th of 11 over C&D in a maiden last time for James Fanshawe. The colt travelled powerfully for a long way before dropping to fourth late on and I think there is more to come from this speedily bred colt.
In the follow @BetVictorRacing on Twitter maiden Harry Bentley wears the second Godolphin colours aboard Tamya (7.20) but the filly ran a race full of promise on debut and has a better draw then Holiday Magic who wears the first colours.
Ragged Robin (7.50) is impossible to oppose under a 6lb penalty for such a facile win at Wolverhampton last time. The selection doesn't have the best of draws in stall nine but he must be followed at present such was the authority with which he won at Dunstall Park last time.
Crazy Chic was impressive at Doncaster on debut but Gone With The Wind (8.20) has already shown an aptitude for tonight's surface when scoring off a 6lb lower mark back in the spring and his four month absence from the track is not considered a negative for the in-form yard of Jeremy Noseda.
