Paul Hanagan heads to Ffos Las for boss Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum seeking to build on his excellent strike-rate this term with three winners from four rides at the track this season. Hanagan rides Tansfeeq in the opening nursery over five furlongs and Taqneen in the feature mile handicap and both should take all the beating.
Tansfeeq (2.00) made a promising debut on soft ground behind subsequent scorer Portamento at Goodwood before disappointing on his next start in a race that has thrown up plenty of winners at Haydock. The selection returned from a break to run a blinder at 20/1 when beaten just two lengths at Salisbury two weeks ago and is entitled to progress ahead of Noel Quinlan's recent scorer Park Glen.
Ed Dunlop's Taqneen (4.05) finished a sequence of three consecutive seconds by winning a soft ground maiden at Thirsk in a very pleasing fashion. The run prior to that was arguably better from a form perspective, chasing home Roger Varian's 83-rated Elsiniaar and from an unrevised mark of 79 has to go close.
Roger Charlton's Bold (3.00) can land the maiden over a mile with James Doyle riding Prince Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte home-bred. The Oasis Dream colt is a half-brother to the owner's Vote Often, placed in an Irish Guineas and the race looks a nice opportunity for the colt to make a winning start.
The corresponding card at Hamilton last season threw up some very smart performers with James Tate's Invincible Strike landing the opener under Paul Mulrennan and Mulrennan fancied to land the opener on the card aboard Arms Around Me (4.45) for trainer Bryan Smart. The yard have been slow to come to hand this season with 15 winners in 2014 but 8 coming since the turn of July and he looks the nice type on pedigree to prove useful.
Tate looks to have a useful one in Scottish Strange (6.20) who should take all the beating in the feature handicap over an extended nine furlongs. Kieren Fallon gets the leg on the 3-y-o who could prove much better than his initial opening mark of 78. By Selkirk and out of an Oasis Dream mare, he should be fine on any going and providing Fallon can manoeuvre his way across form the wide-draw in stall twelve and looks the ideal type to progress further.
Lingfield host a mixed card this evening with Rae Guest's hat-trick seeking Strike a Light worth taking on in the six furlong handicap with Richard Hannon's House Captain (5.40) and talented apprentice Cam Hardie taking off a useful 5lb.
The selection makes his debut handicapping from a mark however gets 5lb from the older horses and a further 5lb from the excellent Hardie. The Captain Gerrard colt put his best foot forward last time out at Newbury when third in a behind a pair of horses rated 82 and 90. Providing he runs to that level once more he should remain competitive.
Hannon's Virile should come on for his debut when fourth at the track last month however Jeremy Noseda's filly Moovnvoy (6.10) should be too good for them in the maiden on the card, switched back to the all-weather after being beaten at odds-on on quick ground two weeks ago at Salisbury.
She lost out in a three-way photograph but prior to that split a smart pair of Godolphin inmates at Kempton and she sets a fair enough standard to hopefully get her head in front at the belated fifth time of asking.
